The History of the Fur Trade

Yesterday, we learned about the history of the fur trade from John Fierst. To review what we learned from him, please write a paragraph response to the following question:

What part of John's lecture did you find the most interesting?

Your response could be centered on the relationship with Native Americans, the trade routes, the competition between the fur companies, or any other topic John discussed.

You can write your response in Word, but when you are finished, post it as a comment on this blog by clicking the "Comment" link below.

Michigan tribe was made of 3 groups:Algonquin Potawatamie, Ojibwa, Odawa. There was battles bewteen Iroquios and Alonquin.American Indians were the first people came to Mickinac Island, then French came. French supports intermarrige between Native American& French.French gave Indians medicine, food, cloth, in reture Indian gave French furs;so that is the fur trade system.Third British came, they break up the traditional trade with Indian like French did.
French and British fight for the fur trade, finally British won the control of fur trade. But French and their friend Odawa went to Miami to detroyed English fort.

French reached the Mackinac Island when they were looking for route to China. French's another goal was to explore mississippe river that is extended to the ocean. The Native Americans such as Ojibwa traded with French. They lived together and had a good relationship. The Native Americans didn't have to come down to sell furs because French went to upper side to get furs from Idians. French allowed intermarriage so there were many Metis at that time. French didn't control the Native American and they became similar. French also elaborated fur trading system and developed forts. Many suppliers called pork eaters were able to carry lots of supplies to the Macknac Island by canoes.
After the first French and Idians war, British won control of fur trade.

It was interesting fact that there are still many Native Americans in the Michigan state. Native American is trying to keep own cultures and government help them to protect their culture.
Some Bay companies came to Canada to create new colonies. Settlers can be moved by canoes, Canoe was very important transportation to them. Using the canoe, they can go trips or get foods.
There was a war of 1812 in Mackinac Island and this war was fought between Untied Kingdom of Great Britain, Ireland and Untied States of America. The main cause of this war was about trading.

American Indians came to the Mackinac Island first, then French came to there. Actually, French was looking for a route of China and gold to sell to another nation. French and American Indians were in a good relationship, some of French and American Indians could married. Later, the British came to the Makinac Island. American Indians didn't like the British. The reason why was that the British destroyed the American Indians' tradition. Later, British won to control the treading system. Also, Indian had 3groups and created each laguage. French went to upper side to get furs. Ojibwa treaded with French. The first war between French and Indians was at Miami.

The most interesting part for me was the part when he was explaining the way how N.A were living and the way that they comunicated with each other and also with French and British and learning new languages and religion. Also very interesting was when he answer the question about is there any N.A around and the way that he explain that there are some more but they change a little bit but there are still the same groups of N.A which were there in the same place ages ago.

In my opinion, most interesting part was when he explained about Native American. When I asked him "Are there Native American's still live in Michigan?" He said of course. and a woman who came with him told us that in April, in Central Michigan University there is events for Native Americans who live around there. They gather around and where their traditional cloth and cook their own food. She said I can come over and join too. I really want to go and watch because I'm really curious about it but because it is during school days I can't. well I hope I have chance to see some day.

The intersting fact was the indians still live in the Mackinac Island. Actually when we listen the historian's lecture I was record the video, so I couldn't listen all of the explain. but one thing is at that time the French didn't force the indians. when the British and French fought each other, I think the reason was about the land. Michigan is very important island in the United America. The lake is so beautiful and that time on the island they produce fur. British and French needed the fur for their countries.

He explained that the first people who were in Mackinac Island was American Indian.
French people were come to the Mackinac Island. However, there was not the place where they had to go because they tried to look for route of China.
The most interested part was when we talked about cummunication between N.Ameicans and French, British.

My the most interesting part was the furtrade between Native american and French or relationship between the Native Americans and Frech. The most interesting part was communication between them. They had spoken different languages each other. During i was reaing this story, I had curious about the languages. Mr.John Fierst said they communicated through body languages and learning each languages. They did fur trade well. The French was the first people who came to meet with Native Americans in the makinac island. Actually the french planed to go china. Later the french lost from the great britain in the war.
